My Story

I am Metis from Treaty 8 territory and MNA Region 1. I have worked within Indigenous communities and non-Indigenous communities for over 15 years. My foundation of practice is based on the belief that “It shouldn’t hurt to be a child.” This applies not only to the children and adolescents I work with; it is also relevant to adults who have carried their early painful experiences into their adult lives that result in ways of coping that block happiness and health.

I combine Western psychological practices with Indigenous practices for a more holistic approach to healing and growth. These practices include Attachment therapy (psychodynamic), Person-centred therapy, play therapy, and Trauma and Neurosystems (NMT Model - Bruce Paerry). Addiction treatment; Body-based therapies (critical for trauma); Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, Solution-focused therapy; and Cultural training through teachings by Indigenous knowledge keepers, elders, and ceremony.

Qualifications include: Red Stream Advanced Play Therapy Training Certification (Play Therapist Certification Stream); Green Stream Foundations of Play Therapy Certification; EMDR Basic Training (certification - Supervision); EMDR Child Trauma Specialist Certification; EMDR and Sandtray Training; Theraplay and MIM Certification; Neurosequential Model Training Certification; Certified Connect Parent Training Trainer; Certified Circle of Security Parent Trainer; Solution-focused Therapy Certification; Bodynamics and SE supervision for five years; Indigenous cultural training (Cree, Blackfoot), Family Group Conferencing (FGC).

Trainings Currently Enrolled In: EMDR certification; Internal Family Systems (IFS) training; ongoing cultural training through teachings by knowledge keepers and elders and ceremony.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We recognize that the land on which we gather is part of Turtle Island, situated within the territories of Treaties Four, Six, Seven, and Eight. This land has long been a sacred gathering place for many nations, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika—alongside the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney-Nakoda, Tsuu T'ina Nation, and the Métis Peoples who call this region home. The deep connection that the First Peoples have to this land teaches us our shared responsibility to protect and honor Mother Earth.Through this acknowledgment, we pay tribute to the ancestors, the children, and all those who rest here, as well as the missing and murdered Indigenous women and men. We recognize the ongoing journey of collective healing for all of humanity. We are reminded that all treaty people have a duty to one another. We stand in solidarity with those beside us, those forgotten, and those lost. We connect with Mother Earth for healing, guidance, and the teachings she offers.
